Miners' Writing

We have material from three miners who wrote about their lives:

Rab Wilson, from Barony, kept a diary during the strike and later on wrote poetry based on local experiences.

John Carrington, from Markham, wrote a diary during the 1972 Miners' Strike.

Les Kelly, the lodge secretary for Point of Ayr NUM, wrote an autobiography that focused on the 1984/5 strike.

The writing from miners that was shared with us during the project focuses on strikes.  This emphasis reflects the importance of these events to those who lived through them.  It also raises questions about what was not recorded or saved.
